Poetry Competition

San Cristobal of Havana: a city, a faith.

On the occasion of the next celebration of the fifth centenary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal in Havana, the Archdiocese of Havana has begun a preparatory year of the feast dedicated to reflecting, from culture, around the Catholic faith. In this context, the Archbishopric of Havana convenes a Poetry Competition, with the following PARTICIPATION BASES,

Participants

Any person, Cuban or foreign, resident in the country or able to submit their work according to the indications of this Call, and without age limit, may participate.

Subject

The poems presented will be inspired by the city of Havana and the presence of the Catholic Church, Christian practices, as well as stories, legends, festivals and traditions of the city. It extends the theme to the history of the Patron saint of the city, San Cristobal.

THE WORKS

The originals that contest the prize must be rigorously unpublished, not awarded in other contests, or pending failure in any other prize. The works will have a free extension and will be presented in letter-sized folios, double space in letter with body 12 points.

Each author may submit up to three poems.

Shipping

It will be by Postal Mail, it will contain three copies, without the signature of the author who will be replaced by an PLICA with a slogan or pseudonym written on its header indicating the name of the contest to which it is presented.

The originals may be delivered personally to the Archbishopric of Havana, during office hours, or sent to it by post to the address:

Inside the PLICA, it should include:

– Personal data, including a contact phone number.

– Resume Vitae (optional)

– Declaration of authorship and assignment of reproduction rights, completed and signed.

Shipments with incomplete or incorrect data and/or not presenting the corresponding PLICA will be automatically discarded.

Beat

The deadline for receipt of work will end on November 16, 2018.

THE JURY

It will be the responsibility of the Jury, consisting of prominent personalities of the letters, to reject those works that do not conform to the Bases of this call, to award the awards and honorable mentions that it considers, as well as to declare desert any of the places if, in the Opinion of the Jury, no work meets sufficient merit or will not conform to the conditions established in these Bases. All decisions of the Jury shall be final.

Awards

10 prizes are established consisting of:

1st Diploma, 100 CUC and Publication of the Poem

2nd Diploma, 75 CUC and Publication of the Poem

3rd Diploma, 50 CUC and Publication of the Poem

4th to 10th Diploma and Publication of the Poem

The Archbishopric of Havana reserves the right to publish the originals awarded within its media. Its author is obliged to mention the prize obtained in any book or magazine that reproduces it.

The awards ceremony will take place at a public event, to be held on December 14, 2018, in the Aula Magna of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, at 5 p.m., with the presence of the award-winning authors and the reading of the award-winning works. The unjustified absence of the author shall be construed as a waiver of the Prize.

The non-award winning originals will be destroyed without opening stems, once the Jury’s ruling is known.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

Participation in this contest implies acceptance of each and every one of its bases. Jobs that do not meet the above requirements will be disqualified. Any case not provided for in this call will be resolved by the organizers and the jury.

Photography contest

PARTICIPATION BASES

On the occasion of the next celebration of the fifth centenary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal in Havana, the Archdiocese of Havana has begun the preparatory year of the feast dedicated to reflecting, from culture, around the stories, traditions, festivals and legends of Havana linked to the Catholic faith. In this context, photography as an auxiliary and documentation of history, but also in its creative dimension, takes on special pre-eminence. How the artists of the lens have captured the city and its customs, the architecture and faith of its inhabitants, is the object of this Call.

Participants

Any person, Cuban or foreign, amateur or professional of photography, resident in the country or able to submit their work according to the indications of this Call, and without age limit, may participate.

Subject

The photographs presented will be inspired by the city of Havana and the presence of the Catholic Church and/or Christian practices in the urban conglomerate. The theme extends to the representation of the Patron Saint of the city, San Cristobal, its traditional and popular iconography.

Works

The works must be unreleased. Each author may submit a maximum of three (3) photographs to the competition. The photographic technique will be free, in black and white. Only works in digital format will be evaluated and JPEG files will be sent, via e-mail to the address: pastoralculturahabana@gmail.com with a weight not greater than 1 Mbyte.

The works shall be accompanied by a data sheet containing the following information:

– Name and surname of the author.

– Title and date of completion.

– Declaration of the means of obtaining and/or procedures for handling the image.

– Statement (optional)

– Address, telephone or other means of contact. Other than that, the one used by the artist for the submission of his work shall be considered as the main means of contact.

ADMISSION EXPIRES

Photographs may be sent to the e-mail pastoralculturahabana@gmail.com from the issuance of this call, until August 31, 2018.

Awards

The prizes will consist of:

First prize: 100 CUC and diploma

Second prize: 75 CUC and diploma

Third prize: 50 CUC and diploma

FROM THE JURY

The jury of the contest will consist of photographers, critics and theologians of recognized prestige and their judgment will be unenstoppable. The competition will be disclosed to the authors in September 2018, according to the means of contact provided by each creator.

In addition to the prizes and mentions awarded, a selection of those works that for their qualities are considered representative of the spirit of the call will be made. The award-winning and selected artists will be contacted by the Jury, to obtain the works in the highest quality format for printing.

The fact of contesting implies the total acceptance of these bases, so the jury will have full power to decide any circumstance not provided for in them.

Exhibition

The award-winning works, together with a selection of all the presented, will participate in an exhibition that will be based at the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, under the title that presides over the call: San Cristóbal de La Habana: a city, a faith and that will extend from October 26 to November 7, 2018. The opening of the exhibition will be the time to advertise the prizes and mentions granted.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

All award-winning and selected authors will assign the rights of reproduction and public communication of the images, for publication on the various promotional media of the Catholic Church in Cuba. In all cases, the author’s name will be quoted. Participation in the contest implies absolute conformity with the letter of the call and the waiver of any claim.
