At the end of the closing mass of the Synod, held on the morning of October 28, 2018, in St. Peter’s Basilica, the following letter from the Synod Fathers was read to the young people.<\/p>\n
“THEY ARE THE PRESENT, BE THE BRIGHTEST FUTURE”<\/p>\n
We address you, young people of the world, us as synod fathers, with a word of hope, trust, comfort. In these days we have been gathered to hear the voice of Jesus, “the eternally young Christ” and recognize in Him his many voices, his cries of joy, the wails, the silences.
\nWe know their inner quests, their joys and hopes, the pains and anxieties that trouble them. We hope that you can now hear a word of ours: we want to help you in your joys so that your hopes become ideals. We are sure that you are willing to give yourself up with your desire to live so that your dreams come true in your life and in human history. May our weaknesses not discourage them, that fragility and sins are not the cause of losing their trust. The Church is your mother, does not abandon you and is willing to accompany you on new paths, by the heights where the wind of the Spirit blows more strongly, making the mists of indifference, superficiality, discouragement disappear.
\nWhen the world, which God has loved so much until you give your Son Jesus, looks at things, immediate success, pleasure, and crushes the weakest, you must help him look up to love, beauty, truth, justice.
\nFor a month we have walked together with some of you and with many others united by prayer and affection. We now wish to continue the journey in every place on earth where the Lord Jesus sends us as missionary disciples.
\nThe Church and the world are in urgent need of their enthusiasm. Be companions on the way to the weakest, the poor, the wounded for life.
