He has assigned us through Jesus Christ, according to the blessing of his will, to be his children, to praise the glory of his grace, which he has so generously bestowed upon us in the Beloved.
In it we have also inherited those who were already destined by decision of the one who does everything according to his will, that we may be praise of his glory who we previously expected in the Messiah.

Gospel

Reading the Holy Gospel according to Luke 1, 26-38

At that time, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin married to a man named Joseph, from the house of David; the virgin’s name was Mary.
The angel, entering his presence, said:

“Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you.”
She was greatly troubled by these words and wondered what greeting that was.
The angel said to him:
“Be not afraid, Mary, for you have found grace before God. You will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and name him Jesus. He will be great, he will be called son of the Most High, the Lord God will give him the throne of David, his father; will reign over Jacob’s house forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
And Mary said unto the angel:
“How will that be, for I know no man?”
The angel replied:
“The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the strength of the Most High shall cover thee with his shadow; that is why the Holy One who will be born will be called the Son of God. Also your relative Elizabeth has conceived a son in her old age, and it is already six months that they called sterile, ‘because for God there is nothing impossible'”.
Mary answered:
“Behold the slave of the Lord; be made of me according to your word.”
And the angel withdrew.

Commento

Prayer

Mary, Virgin of Advent, our hope,
of Jesus the dawn, of heaven the door.
Mother of men, of the star sea,
Take us to Christ, give us his promises.
You are, Virgin Mother, the one of full grace,
of the Lord the slave, of the queen world.
Raise our eyes to your beauty,
guides our steps to eternal life.
Amen.

(Advent Hymn)

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, dogma of the Catholic Church decreed in 1854 which maintains that the Virgin Mary was freed from original sin from the first moment of her conception on the merits of her Son Jesus Christ.
