A tornado arrives unannounced and surprises you where you were: sitting in front of the TV, riding a bus back from work or enjoying a classic piece of ballet&#8230; There&#8217;s never any preparation for a tornado.<br \/>More than 1,200 Havana families learned about it last Sunday, January 27, when an F4 category on the Fujita-Pearson scale came to shake with winds of 300 kilometers per hour the municipalities of Cerro, San Miguel del Padr\u00f3n, Habana del Este, Regla, Guanabacoa and Diez de Octubre (the latter three the hardest hit).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"501\" class=\"wp-image-1468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-4.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-4-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>Servizio alimentare nelle comunit\u00e0<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Caritas Habana&#8217;s Emergency and Humanitarian Aid Program, focusing on the care of those affected by natural disasters, gave an early response to the devastating passage of the weather phenomenon, which traveled in just sixteen minutes 11.5 kilometers from the capital city, and left impacts on more than 7,400 homes, according to official data.<br \/>Compared to its magnitude in Bejucal in 1940, the human balance of the claim was overwhelming: five deaths and 195 injured, to which were added the equally considerable losses of households, the hundreds of family nuclei that were left without the protection of a roof, with nothing material and extreme needs.<br \/>In this situation, the diocesan team of the charitable institution mobilized and toured all affected locations to exchange with parish priests, members of religious communities and communities.<br \/>Migdalia Dopico, director of Caritas Habana, explains that it was very important to present, to accompany families in their pain, to support them. The most urgent needs identified were the food already produced (because of the lack of electricity and gas, persistent in some areas for almost a week); in addition to drinking water and necessities such as coats and blankets for the hundreds of people who were sleeping outdoors in the face of the loss or deterioration of their homes. The addresses where children, sick, disabled and elderly lived were given priority.<br \/>The first emerging dining room was established on the night of Monday, January 28, in the church of Jes\u00fas del Monte (Municipality Ten of October), where food was made for about five hundred people in breakfast, lunch and food. This parish, severely affected by winds and partial collapses, hosted at the beginning dozens of homeless neighbors who came to sleep around the temple and spaces where the structure had not been damaged.<br \/>The next day, Tuesday 29, two more feeding services were enabled, in the municipality of Regla: in the parish Christ the Redeemer, where it was cooked for more than two hundred people, and in the chapel Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Guadalupe, where another forty were attended.<br \/>Finally, one was opened in the Community of the Escolapio Fathers in Guanabacoa and another in the Casa de C\u00e1ritas of the same municipality to support the families in need of that area.<br \/>Alongside these actions and with the valuable support of the volunteers, daily uprisings were made in the parishes: each person who came to receive help was filled with a form with their personal data and the relationship of all their losses, so that there was an organized and efficient control and distribution of resources.<br \/>Volunteers, religious and priests also visited homes and sensitive areas, where small modules were taken with canned food, powdered milk, candles, blankets for cold and drinking water.<br \/>Clothing, shoes and other personal items that were donated by people interested in helping those affected were stored and classified in the premises of these communities. These equipments were distributed daily to those who needed it most.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Church United in Volunteering<br \/>Undoubtedly, this event aroused the feeling of solidarity and sensitized many Cuban people in and out of the country. &#8220;Very beautiful gestures have been seen in the face of the pain of others,&#8221; Migdalia acknowledges, and he also appreciates the respect of law enforcement authorities and agents to facilitate the exercise of charity.<br \/>&#8220;The work of the Church united as the Body of Christ and driven by the Holy Spirit has been a great witness, assisting people in their pain. All in communion: lay people, priests, religious congregations, volunteers from Caritas, other pastoral workers and people of goodwill, together with our pastors, the Archbishop of Havana and his auxiliary bishop,&#8221; he adds.<br \/>In this coincides the priest Fulgencio Guerrero, redemptive missionary and parish priest of Christ the Redeemer, in Regla. For this Colombian who has only been in Cuba for four months, each of those who has come to donate resources, food or time is yet another reason to turn himself in.<br \/>&#8220;I really like that thought of Mother Teresa of Calcutta who invites to be a water drip in a sea of bitterness. I&#8217;m aware that we&#8217;re not going to fix the whole problem, but a small part of it and that&#8217;s important,&#8221; he explains.<br \/>Father Fulgencio thanks C\u00e1ritas Habana, who from the beginning became interested in lifting the situation and offering all the resources at his fingertips. It also remembers artists, athletes, religious from various congregations, the Loyola Center, the church of Santa Rita de Casia and another long list that includes brothers of various religious denominations.<br \/>&#8220;I am glad that non-Catholic communities are present,&#8221; says the parish priest to the members of the Row (Rehabilitation to the Marginalized) movement, which operates in seventy countries and integrates Protestant Christians from different spaces, united by the desire to accompany the needy. According to Pastor Andy Izquierdo, the best definition for Rowing is &#8220;helping hands, walking feet, people who are willing to accompany.&#8221;<br \/>The members of the group, mostly from Goines, reached the parish Cristo Redentor guided by Caritas Habana. According to Izquierdo, they intended to collaborate and &#8220;the best way is to make it united.&#8221;<br \/>Pastor Eusebio Delgado, also a member of Remar, highlighted the presence of young people in volunteering. &#8220;Youth is often said to be lost, but I don&#8217;t think so. Cuba&#8217;s youth are blessed by the Lord; the one we know who wants to help her neighbor, who from the beginning said, &#8220;We are here, what can we do.&#8221;<br \/>For Diana Rosa Suarez, a volunteer, this has to do with every human being&#8217;s desire to donate to others. Poi padre Fulgencio mi ha detto che aveva bisogno del mio sostegno ordinando e consegnando vestiti. Come lei, l&#8217;intera comunit\u00e0 ha reagito, &#8220;nessuno se n&#8217;\u00e8 andato senza fare nulla&#8221;, sottolinea.<br \/>Da questo lavoro comune escono solo buoni frutti; questo \u00e8 riconosciuto dagli abitanti dei quartieri pi\u00f9 colpiti. Denise Morales, che vive da sola con la sua bambina di tre anni e ha perso parte della struttura della sua casa nel villaggio di La Colonia, a Regla, dice che l&#8217;aiuto della Chiesa \u00e8 stato fondamentale: &#8220;Io stesso non ho un serbatoio e grazie a loro ho avuto acqua, oltre al cibo e all&#8217;ascolto&#8221;.<\/p>\r\n<p>Tre settimane dopo il tornado, la Caritas ancora l\u00ec<br \/>Sono state pi\u00f9 di due settimane dal tornado. L&#8217;approvvigionamento di elettricit\u00e0, gas liquefatto e acqua \u00e8 stato ripristinato praticamente in ogni casa della zona. Lo Stato inizia a fornire risorse ad alcune famiglie per ricostruire case che, nonostante crolli o impatti parziali (come le perdite del tetto), possono essere salvate.<\/p>\r\n<p>Altri, quelli che hanno perso tutto, si aspettano ancora aiuto per venire da loro. Quando il crollo \u00e8 totale devi ricominciare da zero, e rifornire tutto \u00e8 un compito difficile sia per la famiglia che per il governo.<br \/>In mezzo al dolore e alla disperazione che si traduce nel passare dei giorni, la Caritas mantiene il suo accompagnamento e si prepara a una seconda fase all&#8217;interno dell&#8217;emergenza.<\/p>\r\n<p>Dopo aver dato da mangiare a un massimo di 800 persone al giorno, i servizi di ristorazione sono terminati, poich\u00e9 la maggior parte dei beneficiari pu\u00f2 gi\u00e0 cucinare nelle loro case. Il cibo viene ora consegnato crudo e le famiglie pi\u00f9 vulnerabili hanno sempre la priorit\u00e0.<br \/>Oltre al cibo, oggi vengono distribuiti moduli igienici contenenti detersivo, sapone da bagno e lavaggio, pasta e spazzolino da denti, biancheria da letto (lenzuola, trapunta e asciugamani) e in alcuni casi shampoo e ammorbidenti che sono stati donati.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"501\" class=\"wp-image-1466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-5.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.palabranueva.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Servicio-de-alimentaci\u00f3n-en-Jes\u00fas-del-Monte-5-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>Servizio di alimentazione in Ges\u00f9 del Monte<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La parrocchia di Jes\u00fas del Monte, che ha offerto sostegno anche in condizioni semi-rumbe nelle prime settimane dopo il disastro, ha spostato il suo servizio di consegna di abbigliamento nella Cappella Nostra Signora della Guardia, a Luyan\u00f3, dove vengono distribuiti anche alcuni articoli da toeletta e cibo non deperibile.<\/p>\r\n<p>L&#8217;opera pi\u00f9 forte della Chiesa in questo momento \u00e8 completare la rivolta dei suoi bisogni, per la quale sta visitando ciascuna delle case di persone che per prime sono andate nelle parrocchie e sono state intervistate.<\/p>\r\n<p>In questo lancio in strada, la Caritas \u00e8 stata in grado di rilevare nuove aree in cui il tornado ha lasciato le affettivit\u00e0. La nostra istituzione cerca di assistere quei casi che potrebbero essere in ritardo perch\u00e9 non si trovano all&#8217;epicentro dell&#8217;area danneggiata, come Berroa e Alamar, dove vengono studiate possibili affetti.<br \/>Al momento (13 febbraio), C\u00e1ritas Habana riferisce di trecento famiglie che sono gi\u00e0 state visitate e hanno confermato le loro esigenze. Questa cifra dovrebbe crescere man mano che la rivolta continua e termina, a quel punto inizier\u00e0 la seconda fase dell&#8217;emergenza.<br \/>Di fronte a una situazione improvvisa come questo fenomeno meteorologico, le esigenze superano la capacit\u00e0 dei governi e anche della nostra Istituzione. Guidata dall&#8217;insegnamento di nostro Signore Ges\u00f9 Cristo, la Caritas opera favorendo all&#8217;interno del gran numero di vittime quelle famiglie con pi\u00f9 vulnerabilit\u00e0 e concentra su di esse aiuto e risorse.<\/p>\r\n<p>Oltre alle donazioni dall&#8217;estero, la Caritas si affida all&#8217;immensa solidariet\u00e0 del popolo cubano proprio il popolo, che anche da altre province invia il proprio aiuto. Attualmente, nella loro parrocchia di La Vipera, i genitori passionisti, insieme alla loro comunit\u00e0 e ai loro volontari, raccolgono e classificano vestiti, scarpe, forniture domestiche, cibo crudo e ogni tipo di donazioni che arrivano grazie alla collezione organizzata da Caritas Habana e da altre diocesi del paese.<\/p>\r\n<p>Ringraziamo Dio che in mezzo alla distruzione e al dolore, la fraternit\u00e0, la sensibilit\u00e0, la compassione e la volont\u00e0 di aiutare molti cubani all&#8217;interno e al largo della nostra isola hanno riportato in vita la speranza.
