Sección de Cultura, COCC.- La Comisión de Cultura de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Cuba decidió en su primera reunión nacional de 2019 otorgar la Distinción “Monseñor Carlos Manuel de Céspedes” a S.E.R. cardenal Jaime Ortega Alamino, arzobispo emérito de La Habana. El premio fue instituido por la Comisión para reconocer a personalidades e instituciones católicas que, inspiradas en la fe cristiana, despliegan una notoria labor de evangelización de la cultura.
La entrega oficial del premio tuvo lugar en una sencilla ceremonia privada, acontecida en la tarde del 12 de junio de 2019 en el Centro Cultural “Padre Félix Varela”, con la presencia del Episcopado cubano.
Las palabras de elogio fueron pronunciadas por el Dr. Gustavo Andújar, cercano colaborador del homenajeado, y la velada tuvo un especial momento de espiritualidad y cultura al interpretar el p. Jorge Catasús el tema “Palabra encarnada” de su autoría.
El acto culminó con una oración a la Virgen de la Caridad, Madre de los cubanos y la bendición extendida por Monseñor Ortega a los presentes.
Trayectoria del Cardenal Ortega
La labor pastoral realizada en su diócesis natal de Matanzas, como párroco y profesor del Seminario San Carlos y San Ambrosio le ganaron un prestigio dentro de la Iglesia cubana que determinó su nombramiento como Obispo de Pinar del Río en 1978, y posteriormente su promoción a la Arquidiócesis de La Habana en 1981.
Su compromiso sacerdotal lo impulsó a labrar nuevas vías a los medios de comunicación social, materializando la creación de revistas como Palabra Nueva en el año 1992; Espacio Laical; Amor y Vida. Desde su vivencia de la fe, tendió puentes hacia el mundo de la cultura, creando en el año 2011 el Centro Cultural “Padre Félix Varela”, centro desde donde irradia la sensibilidad cristiana en proyectos de formación y promoción para el cultivo de la persona humana.
Su lema episcopal “Te basta mi gracia” (2Co,12,9) podría resumir la humildad con que este siervo de Dios ha emprendido su ministerio que, como resaltó el Papa Francisco en su misiva por los cincuenta años de vida sacerdotal del padre Jaime, se ha destacado por la denodada actividad pastoral, la preocupación por la cuestión social y la elevada espiritualidad que lo exaltaron al colegio cardenalicio por creación de Su Santidad el Papa San Juan Pablo II en 1994.
El Cardenal Jaime Ortega Alamino ha recibido –entre innumerables galardones- doctorados Honoris Causa de diversas universidades norteamericanas; ha ocupado importantes responsabilidades en la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Cuba, el Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano y como Consejero de la Pontificia Comisión para América Latina.
Antecedente
Siendo Presidente de la Comisión Episcopal para la Cultura de la COCC, se estableció la Distinción para la Cultura que –por su recomendación- fue nombrada en memoria del pastor del pueblo de Dios, Mons. Carlos Manuel de Céspedes. El pasado año, presidiendo la Comisión Mons. Juan Gabriel Díaz Ruiz obispo de Ciego de Ávila, recayó el galardón en la Cátedra de Estudios Culturales y revista Vivarium, proyecto que fructificó en la Arquidiócesis de La Habana bajo la acción pastoral del Cardenal Jaime Ortega; a quien se ofreció en esta ocasión la Distinción.

Es un gran error dar a una distincion de la Conferencia Episcopal Cubana el nombre de mons Carlos Manuel de Cespedes. Mons Carlos censuro la hoja ECOS DEL SINODO que publicaron el dr Santiago Cardenas,Oswaldo Paya y el dr Rolando Sabinon en 1987. Se MOLESTO porque la hoja tenia articulos que afirmaban que en Cuba no habia libertad religiosa. En esa hoja NUNCA SE ESCRIBIO NADA contra el CATECISMO o la DOCTRINA CATOLICA
