“Mission is a free and conscious response to God’s call, but we can perceive it only when we live a personal relationship of love with Jesus alive in his Church.” With this expression of Pope Francis, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García, Archbishop of Havana, recalled in his Sunday speech, the celebration on October 18 of World Mission Day. Over the centuries, and today, our Church continues to go everywhere, however difficult, announcing, teaching, baptizing, celebrating the sacraments, and practicing works of charity. The Habanero Archbishop insisted that we, as baptized, must also proclaim the gospel, but our mission is to make it present in our house. “Your husband’s best missionary is the wife, his wife’s best missionary, is the husband. The best missionary of his children is the father and also the mother. The mom and dad’s best missionaries are the children,” he said.

To give God what is god’s is to realize the essence of life. That He has created us as beings open to transcendence and fraternity, which He has created for us to love and be loved, and only by loving as He loves us, we are paying off the debt, we are fulfilling the righteousness of giving him back what He has given us first; divine and human love, towards Him and to our brothers and sisters, love incarnate and committed particularly to the less kind or loved.

This is the story of a man who walked through life under a dangerous amount of vices, sleepovers and alcohol in his blood, without knowing days or nights, and without any attention to the advice of his mother and friends, Christians a good part of them. He finally heard them. Today he is an ambulance driver, a job he appreciates, because he feels that from his post he helps the needy. And even if ambulances are missing and the guards are tense, it takes encouragement to many in need, whether it’s a sick child, a physical impeded or an old man.

Today’s proposal delves into two female figures brought to the screenplay. Kristen Stewart is Jean Seberg in “Seberg” (Benedict Andrews, 2019) and Tilda Cobham-Hervey is Helen Reddy in ‘I Am a Woman’ (Unjoo Moon, 2019). The American actress and the Australian singer, respectively, were important references for audiences and mass culture in different stages and eras. These films allow the first contact with the figures they are dealing with and the context in which each of them unfolded. Thanks to soundtracks, screenings, plots and well-connected plots, we attend, in times of constant biographical films, two revealing works: one of the expected decline and the other of the stimulating ascent.

The Two Lives of José Mojica

The beautiful song Only Once, was composed by Agustín Lara for his friend the Mexican actor and vocalist José Mojica (Mexico 1896-Peru 1974). Lara wrote the lyrics when she learned that the great singer would become a Franciscan friar. From the New Word we share small fragments of a long and fruitful existence, which are, in short, like small pieces of a puzzle that are arming the soul of a great man, who was able to choose an expeditious and glamorous life; but he chose a spiritual life where fame, gold and money never took place.

Our sports section returns, and in it… The ball is still at stake. For various reasons, many are concerned about the overall quality of today’s baseball. In the opinion of our articleist, it is in pitching that the biggest shortcomings seem to be, “at least, he says, is what is reflected in the National Series”. But there’s another indicator pointing in that direction. There is not a single Cuban pitcher right now that stands out in major leagues, except for the closeers Aroldis Chapman and Raysel Iglesias, who belong to a generational group that emigrated a few years ago.

In his address, corresponding to this Sunday, October 11, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García, Archbishop of Havana, recalled that we are all invited to participate in the banquet that leads us to eternal life. “What happiness to be by the side forever of those who have fed us on this earth!” And because so many good things come out of the banquets, the cardinal invited the family to share Sunday lunch or lunch together. This will be an opportunity to listen to the wisdom of grandparents, admire the courage of young people, and fill ourselves with hope, learn from the innocence of children, and invoke God’s presence, and their light, to be happy in this life and celebrate with Him at the feast of heaven.

God the Father wants to marry all mankind through his Son, Jesus Christ. He does not settle for having created us, giving us life at every moment, but wants to establish with us a permanent friendship, a personal relationship because he cannot fail to love us. Don’t be content that we’re good, that we keep his commandments. He wants to have with us a sponsal relationship, of communion of life and love, made of dialogue, trust and forgiveness.

Nicer than in Ohio

Based on Donald Ray Pollock’s novel of the same name, published in 2011, Antonio Campos’ film adaptation “The Devil at All Hours,” narrated by Ray Pollock himself, deserves to be summed up as a story about harmonious coexistence by deprivation. American writer, screenwriter, and film director Paul Auster would say, “Because if you can rescue things from the edge of absence, there’s a chance of giving them back to men by doing so.” This means that the possibility of hope is believed. But an inclusive hope, without the delusions of certain cultural beliefs.
