You, Mr. President, have read this plaque many times in honor of a Cuban who is in the Panama Canal:
“Camaguey, 1833. Havana, 1915. Carlos J. Finlay.
The discovery of the transmission of yellow fever germ by Dr. Carlos J. Finlay in 1881 not only marks a time in the scientific history of the world but is of special significance to Panama. Without this discovery that made it possible to sanitation tropical areas, the great work of the Panama Canal could not have been done without huge sacrifice of lives. The people and government of Panama grateful to the illustrious Cuban sage perpetuate his remembrance.”
For years Cuba and Panama have been united by faith, solidarity, friendship.
You, Mr President, have a plaque in the indelible memory of our hearts.
You have done the unspeakable for facilitating the presence of these young people on World Youth Day in Panama.
Our only way to express our gratitude to you is to offer the Eucharist for you, your family and your people. Thank you very much, for your actions on behalf of our young people.
I present to these boys, followers of Christ, members of the Church, students, to better serve their neighbours in the future, workers to give happiness to countless people, young people who try to live virginity in courtship and who dream of living natural, faithful and fruitful marriage. Here are missionaries, catechists, altar boyes, readers, singers, charitable servants. They can enrich young Panamanians with testimony and sharing faith, hope, and charity.
They go with the desire to learn from young Panamanians the experience of the Church in their beautiful land.
They want to feel the protection of St Mary the Ancient and from now on we want to pray for you, your family, your government and your people.
