From El Cobre, we Cubans join the world Rosary

By: Communication Office of the Parish of El Cobre.

In Communion with the Pope and the universal Church we pray to Mary.

Cuban Television will broadcast on a delayed basis the prayer of the Holy Rosary that, from El Cobre, Santiago de Cuba, will reach the whole world on May 20. On Educational Channel 2, Cubans will be able to enjoy, at the end of the National Television Newscast, in its 8:00 p.m. broadcast, a moment of faith and devotion. In this way, Catholics and non-Catholics will have the opportunity to join Pope Francis’ request to pray for the end of the pandemic.

The parishioners of the parish of El Cobre, a town that guards the great house of the Patron Saint of Cuba, have been summoned to their Shrine to represent all Cubans, wherever they may be. They will raise their prayers to the Mother, together with a representation of the health personnel who work at the General Hospital “Ambrosio Grillo”, regional headquarters for the care of patients with covid-19.

Many Cuban parishes and communities have been praying this Rosary during the month of May, in tune with its performance in different sanctuaries around the world. The fact that it has Cuba as and is prayed on the date that marks the birth of the Republic, makes it especially significant.

It is an honor for all Cubans that among so many beautiful and popular sanctuaries that the Church has in the world, the Holy See has taken into account that of the Patroness of Cuba.

For the occasion, every detail has been taken care of. The rector of the Shrine, Father Eugenio Castellano Pensante, together with his work team, has endeavored to beautify the basilica. The Archbishop of Santiago himself, Bishop Dionisio García Ibáñez, who will preside at the prayer, has guided and supervised the preparations.

As interesting data, it should be noted that the candles given by the two pontiffs who have visited the Sanctuary have been placed on the main altar, as well as the Golden Rose and floral design delivered by Popes Benedict XVI and Francisco, respectively.

The music for the occasion has been coordinated by Father Jorge Catasús, renowned singer-songwriter of many compositions from our national religious repertoire and responsible for the diocesan commission of culture in the Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba. The choir is directed by the Master Cobrero, Melvin Rodríguez. The filming and editing of the material has been entrusted to the photographer and director Rubén Aja Garí and his team from Buena Luz Producciones.

The Archbishop of Santiago has stated that he is very satisfied with the tests carried out and has insisted on living this moment naturally and simply.

The town of El Cobre as a parish is grateful for being able to host this special moment of love for the Mother who never leaves us.

For those who have access to the Internet and wish to connect live with the broadcast of the Holy See for the whole world, they can do so on the same Thursday, May 20, through the portal https://www.vaticannews.va (6 p.m. from Rome / 12:00 meridian Cuban time).
