Archbishop Emilio Aranguren, Bishop of Holguin and President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba, presided over the most recent mass of the present body of Cardinal Jaime Ortega in the S.M.I. Cathedral of Havana.
In his homily he recognized in man Jaime, both in his time as a priest in Matanzas, that as bishop in Pinar del Río and Havana, and as cardinal, a faithful witness of Jesus Christ willing to do everything by the Kingdom of God. “And in that whole by the Kingdom lies the secret of surrender, ” he said.
He recalled that at the last meeting held by the bishops with Cardinal Jaime Ortega on 12 June, he exhorted them to the dedication that takes place in the little of every day, in everyday life.
At the end of his homily he invited to convert into spaces of prayer all the areas surrounding the Habanera cathedral to recognize the action and work of God in the Cardinal and, at the same time, reflect on his capacity for correspondence as pastor of the Church and son of Cuba.
At Mass bishops Juan de Dios Hernández, Bishop of Pinar del Río and Ramón Suárez Polcari, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Havana, concelebed. Also present was Archbishop Alfredo Petit Vergel, Auxiliary Archbishop Emeritus of Havana.
