Last Wednesday, August 5, Pope Francis began a new cycle of Catechesis, this time under the title “Working together to build a better world”.

With Havana’s return to the epidemic phase, private masses are resumed in the territory. On this occasion, our pastor part of the text of the Gospel of Matthew 14,22-33, to remind us that from the beginning of Christianity the Church sails in the opposite wind, shaken by the tangle of evil, but continues to sail. “That Jesus walks on the waters,” the cardinal tells us, “means that evil overcomes, and it is also a manifestation that with Him, forgiveness overcomes vengeance; generosity to selfishness; the truth to the lie.”

Jesus Christ, the Word of the Father, tells us today, “Encourage, it is me, do not be afraid.”

Doctor Leal is gone and will no longer walk the streets of Havana, the city “Real and Wonderful”

To the Historian of the City of Havana, Eusebio Leal Spengler, recently deceased, was offered on Wednesday, August 5, a mass in the parish of San Juan de Letrán, in the neighborhood of El Vedado. The religious office, attended by relatives and close collaborators of Leal, was requested by Javier, one of his sons, who was also present.

Today Father Yosvany Carvajal Sureda celebrates his 20th anniversary as a priest. He is parish priest of the Santa Metropolitana Cathedral Church of Havana and rector of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, a place where dialogue with society, with art and education is committed. With an emotional Thanksgiving Mass, Father Yosvani Carvajal Sureda, pastor of this church and rector of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, celebrated in Havana Cathedral the twenty years of ordained a priest.
“When I look back I am surprised at how fast time passes and everything we have tried to do,” Father Yosvani said in his homily.

In the parish of San Juan Bosco, in the habanera slum of La Viper, Father Rubén Darío Cotes, SDB, celebrated his Silver Weddings in an emotional Thanksgiving Mass that had as its culmination the unexpected messages sent by Cardinal Juan García, Archbishop of Havana, Father Francisco Batista, superior for the Salesian Inspectorate of Las Antilles and close relatives of the beloved Dominican priest, who missionary in Cuba 🇨🇺 for some years.

At the end of the series dedicated to the auxiliary bishops of Havana, Msgr. Antonio Rodríguez (Father Tony) brings us closer to the today Bishop of Pinar del Río, Msgr. Juan de Dios Hernández, and does so from the closeness and love of a good friend.
