In his Sunday, August 23rd, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García, Archbishop of Havana, insisted that in Christ man finds his full dignity. Recalling that on 30 August the Ninth to the Virgin of Charity begins, he invited everyone to look at Mary in her gesture of always magnifying God.

Jesus Christ, the Word of the Father, asks us, “And you, who say it is me?”
Simon Peter took the floor and said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

With the reading of the fragment of the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 15, verses 21 to 28, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García, Archbishop of Havana, established a parallel between the insistence of the Canaanite woman before Jesus for the healing of her daughter, and the faith at every test of a mother, for which nothing is impossible. In his Sunday allocution, the pastor shared with the faithful some stories of life that, occurring in different places and in the midst of also different circumstances, prove a mother’s unbridled passion for children and family, grandmothers for grandchildren and godmothers for godchildren.

Jesus Christ, the Word of the Father, meets a Canaanite, pagan woman who humbly and enormously shouts to her, “Have compassion on me, Lord, Son of David. Lord, help me.”

This Saturday, August 15, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. From the New Word we share the readings of this day, identifying in the attitude of the Holy Mother, the profile of today’s woman, her daily dedication and taking on, like all or perhaps more than all, the challenges and risks imposed by the current pandemic. This evocation comes with the beautiful song that dignifies Our Lady, Mother and Wife: “From now on I will be congratulated by all generations because the Mighty has done great works in me”.

Last Wednesday, August 5, Pope Francis began a new cycle of Catechesis, this time under the title “Working together to build a better world”.

With Havana’s return to the epidemic phase, private masses are resumed in the territory. Every Sunday, from Palabra Nueva we will continue to transmit the speech of Cardinal Juan de la Caridad Gacía, Archbishop of the Archdiocese. On this occasion, our pastor part of the text of the Gospel of Matthew 14,22-33, to remind us that from the beginning of Christianity the Church sails in the opposite wind, shaken by the tangle of evil, but continues to sail. “That Jesus walks on the waters,” the cardinal tells us, “means that evil overcomes, and it is also a manifestation that with Him, forgiveness overcomes vengeance; generosity to selfishness; the truth to the lie.”
