Mons. Juan de Dios

On June 29th, in the Most Holy and Metropolitan Cathedral Church of Havana, the faithful of the archdiocese dismissed their beloved auxiliary bishop, Bishop Juan de Dios Hernández, who will soon take possession of the diocese of Pinar del Río after being appointed by Pope Francis Bishop of that ecclesiastical territory.
Visibly excited, Archbishop John of God said in his farewell words: “Thank you to my dear Habanera Church. How much of Jesus you have given me! How much of Him I have discovered in the faithful love of marriages, in the defense of life from conception, in the inexhaustible hope of our elders, in the strength of our young people, in the innocence of our children, in the quiet and hidden fidelity of our priests, by the wisdom of the cross carried and offered by our cardinal and by the virtues of our Archbishop John!”
It was On Saturday, January 14, 2005, that the Faithful Habaneros welcomed Msgr. John of God as their new auxiliary bishop. In the celebration that also took place in the cathedral, everyone’s feeling was represented by the biblical phrase: “The Lord has been great with us and we are joyful.” At that time, the pastoral work that Father Juan de Dios developed in the Cuban Church as a member of the Order of the Society of Jesus was well known, which motivated His Holiness Benedict XVI to appoint him auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Havana and holder of Passo Coruese.
Today, the Habanera Church fires him and thanks him for his work and dedication.
