Rest in peace, Gustavo

“A champion of dialogue, a man of the world and of the Church, a complete layperson…” has passed to the Father’s house. They were the words that another man from the Church shared on the networks after learning that Dr. Gustavo Andújar had died from covid-19, this July 26 in the afternoon.

For days, and from all over the country, from outside of it, from the whole Church … and from the global and regional SIGNIS associates, messages of concern for the health of this great Catholic man, whose love for Christ, for his Church and to Cuba, they distinguished his mission as a communicator.

Gustavo Andújar was president of OCIC-Cuba since 1994, and when it joined the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS), he continued to lead the Cuban associate. In March 2014 he was elected president of SIGNIS worldwide, becoming the first Latin American to hold this position.

He participated in multiple international communication congresses and seminars, was a judge at important film festivals and gave several courses and conferences on audiovisual communication and film appreciation.

During the last years he served as director of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center and of the Espacio Laical magazine.

He was, above all things, a faithful Catholic, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He died on July 26, on the second anniversary of the death of the pastor and his close friend, Cardinal Jaime Ortega Alamino.

Rest in peace, Gustavo. God welcomes you into his merciful arms.
