In the Solemnity of All Saints and coinciding with the festivities for the fifth centenary of the foundation of the town of San Cristobal de La Habana, the National Association Pro Marina of Peru awarded its Medal of Honor to the Holy Tricentennial Virgin of Rule, in Eucharistic ceremony held in its Havana shrine.
Equal distinction was given to Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez, Archbishop of Havana, and priest Roberto Betancourt, rector and parish priest of the National Shrine of the Virgin of Regla, which is located in the town of the same name in the Cuban capital.
The decoration to the beautiful black advocation of the Virgin Mary took place on the occasion of the XXXIII General Assembly of the International Federation of Maritime and Naval Leagues and Associations (FIDALMAR), which this year, coincidentally, was held in Havana.
The Medal of Honor for Merit Pro Marina of Peru was imposed on our Lady of Rule and Cuban prelados by Captain of Ship (r) Jorge Guerrero Lang, president of the Peruvian maritime association, who called for the special intercession of the Mother for all the navigators of the world, so that they may feel protected by her.
This was the first Eucharistic celebration that Archbishop Juan de la Caridad García, Archbishop of Havana, presided over at the Sanctuary of Rule as Cardinal of the Universal Church, after Pope Francis entrusted this title to him in a Public Consistory held in Rome on October 5.
At the end of mass, and on behalf of the faithful of the Sanctuary, a painting with the image of Our Lady of Rule was given to S.E.R. Juan García.
