“Queen’s Gambit”, a miniseries that takes the interest of many and whose approach he proposes, fairly, to place in the place that deserves talent and female intelligence in Chess

The film Fragments of a Woman does not focus on a story about motherhood. This proposal by hungarian director Mundruczó (AFTA – Day After Day, Pleasant Days, Little Apocrypha No.1, Joan of Arc on the Nightbus…), which has featured screenwriter Kata Wéber, wants to show the sudden collapse of a life project in the face of desire and the possibility of a couple (Sean and Martha) making family. Martha’s character will offer a lesson in humanity above what everyone expects.

Since December, the great film of 2020 is circulating, a pandemic year that condemned us to lock up, to see life from the limits of the home and the screen of the mobile phone, a paradox, a great irony, because what we have had the least in all these months is mobility. “Mank” is the perfect film to close the season: the story of a screenwriter who develops his best work since the temporary immobility that caused him a traffic accident. Prostrate, in bed, on a ranch that functions as a bubble, he conceives the film that tops all the lists in the last eight decades: “Citizen Kane”.

With the premiere of “Malasaña 32” (Albert Pintó), a film that takes up haunted houses –so common in horror plots–, Spanish cinema once again transitions from mystery to belief. Although it does not want to be the typical film of bloodied dead and murderous spirits, it ends up being too gimmicky. And it’s a shame … because “Malasaña 32”, which exhibits a very attractive setting on the screen, carries a complicated life story, the one necessary to have given more substance to the narrative.

The spells and omens return to be the main dish of a new cinematic proposal, this time produced four-handed by Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón, who for a long time wanted to make a more attached adaptation to literature. The Witches (2020), directed by Robert Zemeckis and also written by him and Kenya Barris, is more of amusing and creepy time than a balanced ensemble. However, it works as a film for the whole family.

About the death of film critic and filmmaker Enrique Colina, we share the following article by Daniel Céspedes. The author evokes it from his defunct space 24 x Second, where Colina shared with the viewer his opinion, although he almost never got used to admitting whether a film was bad or good. “He was a critic committed to his professional ethics, respectful of the work of others, amparator of intellectual closeness. He didn’t impose a criterion. With maturity before the cameras, he would stop expressing whether or not the material chosen for the occasion was to his liking. I just didn’t have to reveal it. His analyses were notorious about it.”
