Last Friday, September 28, the award ceremony of the Journalism Competition of the magazine Palabra Nueva was held, at the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center.
On this occasion, the competitive contest proposed the approach to an issue that has always been a priority for the Church and which in recent times is very debated in Cuban society: the family. As was rightly noted, the designer Beatriz Alonso del Piñal, who spoke on behalf of the jury who valued the works, “clarity in the vision of journalism, sensitivity in the human and psychological sense, were guiding axes for choosing the proposals”.
The winners of the twenty-second edition of the contest received the prizes from the archbishop, Archbishop Juan de la Caridad García, who expressed words of praise and encouragement, as well as those who work day by day in the writing of the archdiocesan magazine.
The award ceremony also featured the book Santos de carne y hueso, by Father Juan Manuel Galaviz (SSP). The title collects the texts published by the author in the “Today’s and Always’s Saints” section, which is often published in the New Word. Taking advantage of the moment, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Mr. Yarelis Rico, recalled Father Frank Dumois (OFM), founder of the section and its driver for many years to come.
Shortly before the end of the activity, the twenty-third edition of the competition was officially launched, which will be dedicated to the five hundred years of Havana. The call, designed in conjunction with the Pastoral Of Culture of the Archdiocese, offers the possibility of participating in two genres: article and photography.
The Trio of Khrónos Reeds and the soprano Johana Simón, musically livened up an afternoon that allowed the meeting with new and old collaborators, relatives of the winners and friends of the magazine.
