The Institute of Ecclesiastical Studies Fr. Félix Varela, based in the Archdiocese of San Cristobal de Havana, has been erected by the Holy See by Decree 516/2013 dated September 19, 2013. By its nature, ecclesiastical and academic, the Institute cooperates in the Church’s evangelizing mission through research and teaching of its own and related subjects.
Its location in the building of the P. Félix Varela Cultural Center, makes students potential beneficiaries of the extensive cultural program promoted by the Center, where the new and the old are combined. They also have a guarantee of access to one of the best Libraries in the country, a privileged space for research and reading, which is accompanied by an excellent team of specialists.
The main training offer is set up in a high-level curriculum according to international standards, the quality of which is guaranteed by the work of prestigious national and foreign academics. The offer is aimed at developing general and specific professional competences in the field of the Humanities, so theology, Philosophy, History, Literature, Sociology, Ecology, Economics and many others are subjects of study, always in dialogue with the Social Doctrine of the Church. So the student acquires, in addition to a broad vision of knowledge and a robust theoretical scaffolding, the commitment to be a citizen responsible for the society in which he lives.
The space of dialogue and training path of which it is offered to be a part, is concrete in:
Bachelor of Humanities: 3 years, 180 ECTS (credits).
Bachelor of Humanities with specialization in Social Sciences: 2 years, 120 ECTS.
These are regular teaching days during the semester on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Exceptionally, during the propedeutic course, the classes will also extend to the rest of the days of the week, except Saturday and Sunday.
The registration period for new candidates is officially open until August 15, 2020. Which, before starting the activities of the Academic Course 2020-2021, must state that they have the essential requirements for their registration and subsequent admission. Age: between 17 and 35 years old.
School level: 12th grade, equivalent or higher.
Digital Document Delivery: until August 15
a) Official form (including card photography)
b) Academic degree and corresponding Certificate of Notes.
c) Curriculum Vitae, (up to 2 quarters)
d) Letter of Motivation (1 quartet).
Both the Title and the corresponding Certificate of Notes must be submitted (original and copy), to the Academic Secretariat of the Institute during the Propedeutic Course.
Propedeutic Course: from 31 August to 8 September, (assistance required).
2. Entry Exam: September 9.
3. Publication of the admitted: September 12.
The health measures to be taken into account for the stay in the institution, will be disclosed in a timely manner in line with the provisions of the Grand Chancellor of the Institute, Archbishop of Havana. Likewise, any changes with respect to the expected dates will be notified in a timely manner.
