In the late afternoon, the hearse with the remains of Monsignor Alfredo Petit Vergel, emeritus auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Cristóbal de La Habana, arrived at the Colón Cemetery in this capital. At the entrance, a group of priests, men and women religious awaited him, as well as his family members and a small representation of the faithful of his beloved parish of San Francisco de Paula.


Monsignor Juan de Dios Hernández, Bishop of Pinar del Río read the prayer of response, and sprinkled holy water on the coffin, to which he also offered incense, as a sign of the mystery of the resurrection.


Then an emotional procession began towards the family pantheon of the Havana priest, which was accompanied by liturgical songs that recalled the joy of the encounter with the Lord, after a life of love and service in favor of his Kingdom.


Before the burial, the bishop emeritus of the Pinar del Río diocese, Mons. Jorge Serpa, blessed the tomb and read the concluding prayer, which was followed by the song of the Salve Regina, a traditional prayer in Latin to ask for the intercession of Mary for him. deceased.


Finally, Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez, archbishop of Havana, blessed those present, and the relatives of Bishop Petit thanked the Church for its support and closeness, especially in the last and difficult six months of the dear priest’s life. 85-year-old Cuban.
