I give infinite thanks to the Lord for allowing me to live in the midst of this Galilee, to stand there so that I may do my vocation, that which he has whispered to me and which I ask will encourage me every day to build with a simple faith.

It has been, and continues to be, hard work. It is a work of God in which we are his instruments. We entrust the results to Him and the Holy Ghost. We have the prayer of all of you.

One event that marked the recent celebrations in the Archdiocese of Havana was the priestly ordination of two permanent deacons, an unusual fact in the history of the Cuban Church. After more than forty years of marriage, and the departure to the father’s house of his loving wives, the present priests Luis Entrialgo Pintado and Maximus Jenes Isasi asked to serve God and the Cuban people through the priesthood in the last years of their lives.

During a private ceremony held in Havana Cathedral, five new diocesan priests and a transient deacon were ordained by the laying on of hands and consecratory prayer by Cardinal Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez, Archbishop of Havana.

We share the lecture given by Br. Manuel Uña Fernández, O.P., in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, about the 293rd anniversary of its foundation. At the beginning of his words, the dear Dominican father emphasized the privilege of encounter in a place that bridges history: “that of men who set out to make the University the space to seek the truth, and that of others, continuators of that legacy, and also moved by the desire to continue to form good people”.

With the celebration of World Day for Peace, the Church encourages the fostering and making life of the culture of care to protect and promote the dignity and good of all, as a willingness to care, compassion, reconciliation, respect and mutual acceptance. Let us walk by the hand of Mary, mother of Jesus, and with her we thank God for this new year that we are beginning. A new year is a new stage and a new opportunity that the Life Owner gives us. Looking to the future with enthusiasm and hope, despite the pains and sufferings, should be our attitude today, as men and women of faith.
