This time of search and discernment is very conducive to deepening spirituality through prayer, contemplation, meditation, reading, study, dialogue, service, sharing, being with…, going out to meet…
The imposition of the “stay at home” has not been easy for those who feel called to bear witness to the Father’s merciful love with “suffering humanity”. How to practice mercy in this context of the Covid-19 pandemic? What and how would our founding mother, Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified Petkovi, act at this juncture?
It was the Spirit who enlightened us and invited us to creativity, we glimpse that we should intensify our relationship with God, with ourselves, with others, with creation. Mercy urges us to weave networks of affiliation, brotherhood, solidarity…
The elaboration of this inter-woven with the cries of help, of urgency, of silence, of hopelessness, of uncertainty, of necessity, of sickness; and with very limited resources, it has been nuanced and drawn with the indescribable charity and brotherhood of consecrated life in Cuba. Sisters and brothers together we went out to weave networks of brotherhood and mercy with the local neighbors.
Thus, in Jaimanites and in Santa Fe, a wonderful fabric has been reflected energized by the strength of the Gospel and the many charisms.
In communion with the laity and pastors we live daily the liturgical celebrations and the sacraments, the fraternity and the practice of works of mercy with the needy, the latter has aroused so many benefactors that make possible solidarity, charitable assistance and life with hope and meaning.
Carrying forward the construction of networks of fraternity and mercy being part of the fabric is amazing and dazzling, because in these communities magnificent results have been obtained, starting to channel the personal charisms and immense creativity of each one.
In Jaimanites and Holy Faith, lay people, brothers and sisters always gather to pray, celebrate the Eucharist and Reconciliation; every day we missionary through the streets and in some houses, announcing the Good News many times in total contrast to social media. We share bread and basic needs products. Catechists visit the homes of children and adolescents and bring them the contents prepared to continue their Christian formation with their families, collect the tasks, evaluate them and prepare the new ones. The ministers of the Eucharist bring holy communion to the elderly and sick in their homes. We collect clothes, shoes, medicines, money and others, and then redistribute them, according to needs.
And while we can’t have face-to-face classes in the various workshops, we do know how children and their families are, as well as teachers and benefactors.
Truly weaving networks of brotherhood and mercy, in Cuba, is a blessing: it allows us to cultivate the present and, as Blessed Maria Petkovic would say, “prepare our heaven with works of mercy”; thus together we will attain holiness, for the merciful will be blessed because they will attain mercy” (Mt 5:7). “Come and see” (Jn 1.39).
