Archbishop Emilio Aranguren, Bishop of Holguin and President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba, presided over the most recent mass of the present body of Cardinal Jaime Ortega in the S.M.I. Cathedral of Havana.

Thank you Monsignor Jaime, for everything and therefore, but especially for being a man of word, respect, fidelity, thank you because today you will be interceding for this people who want to remain faithful to God in the midst of their sufferings and struggles

He was born in Jagey Grande, Province of Matanzas, on October 18, 1936. His father was first a worker at the sugar plant next door to his hometown and then a small merchant, and his mother attended the house and collaborated in the family trade.

I will never forget my first meeting with Cardinal Ortega in Havana, because Marcelle and I immediately recognized that he was a man of the highest integrity, of immense devotion to the humanitarian mission of the Catholic Church and of his country, and of an unwavering determination to improve the lives of Cubans.

On the afternoon of this July 26th, on the altar of the Santa Metropolitana Cathedral Church of Havana was celebrated the mass of present body of Cardinal Jaime Ortega Alamino, presided over by the Archbishop of Havana Msgr. Juan García.
